Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saoud has been in power since January 23, 2015. From June 16, 2012 to January 23, 2015, he was the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. He is the 25th son of King Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia and the son of King Abdulaziz and Hasabint Ahmed al-Sudari. He served as deputy governor of Riyadh for 48 years from 1963 to 2011. He was then appointed Minister of Defense. He was appointed crown prince in 2012. King Salman ascended to the throne in 2015 when his half-brother King Abdullah died. Salman's work as king includes Saudi Arabia's intervention in the Yemen civil war, Saudi Vision 2030 and Saudi women's declaration of permission to drive in 2017.
