Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln led the nation through the Civil War and succeeded in defending the Federation, abolishing slavery, supporting the federal government, and modernizing the American economy. He also worked to heal war-torn countries. Lincoln is remembered as an American martyr and hero, and is often considered the greatest president in American history. Although he did not spend much time with his family, he was a caring husband and father of four children.
