🇬🇧1/10 - The world's first subway

The world's first subway was opened in London, England, on January 10, 1863, when London City Justice Charles Pearson proposed to reduce traffic problems by installing trains passing through the basement of the city. Unlike the current subway, the Metropolitan Line was in the form of steam locomotives pulling wooden carriages. There was no roof in the carriages, so the inside of the subway was very noisy. Nevertheless, many passengers began to use the subway. Network expanded to 11 routes, used for 296 million passengers in 2020/21 and became the 12th busiest subway system in the world. A total of 11 routes handle up to 5 million passenger trips a day and operate 272 stations.
