๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ1/24 - Monkey Clone Success

In 2018, Scientists from the Neuroscience Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences succeeded in cloning a monkey for the first time in the world using the somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) technique.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences held a press conference in Beijing and announced that a research team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences had obtained a somatic cloned monkey. This is the world's first somatic cloning of a primate animal, a global challenge. On November 27, 2017, the world's first cloned monkey "Zhongzhong" was born at the Neuroscience Research Institute/Brain Science and Intelligence Technology Excellence Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After the successful cloning of Dolly the sheep in 1997, somatic cloning of several types of mammals continued to be successful. However, the somatic cell cloning of monkeys, a primate animal close to humans, remained an unresolved and difficult task.
This study means that China will be at the forefront of the use of monkeys as experimental animal models, and it means that Chinese scientists are one step closer to taking the lead in the just-started international megaproject of primate whole brain neural maps.
